The Part 3 Text Analysis is scored on a 4-point rubric and then weighted X 2. Avoid summarizing plot in your essays unless they are supportive examples. Explain how or why the audience should be persuaded to your side. In order to ensure an appropriate distribution of credits across the test, each part is weighted.
The extent to which the response convey complex ideas and information clearly and accurately in order to respond to the task and support an analysis of the text. Use the passages provided for details in your persuasive or thematic essays.
Control of Conventions The extent to which the response demonstrates command of conventions of standard English grammar, usage, capitalization, puncuation, and spelling. Form your thesis according to the exam instructions given for the essay because they usually ask you a question or tell you what they want from the essay.
Reading Comprehension This part of the exam requires close reading of two to three texts and will contain at least one literature and one informational text, followed by 24 multiple choice questions.
For the critical lens essay, present the lens in your thesis and state your position. The categories are information and understanding, literary response and expression, critical analysis and evaluation and social interaction. Format your outline in three main sections: Structure the body to include supporting ideas, details and examples to solidify your thesis.
Summarize the points in it you used to support your thesis. Make sure the body is coherent and logical. Students will compose an essay of argument with a claim based on the sources. For Part 1, each multiple-choice question is worth one point.*For the purpose of writing your critical essay, you may interpret the word novels to include plays, short stories, poems, biographies, and books of true experience.
